p.s. My favorite new small business is "The Wine Thief" on St. Clair
near Fairview. :-)
And got me thinking about local businesses beyond the scope of the
conversation. We shop local as much as we can. So here's to giving them
some free advertizing.
In no particular order:
Al's Breakfast - dinkytown (where I plan to go for lunch today)
Old Man River - west st. paul the best coffee in either city IMO
Languna Hardware - west st. paul I've often left with advice as well as
what I went in for
Regina's Chocolates - St. Clair and something over by cleveland (new!)
Zipps liquors - franklin & riverside -ish great wine prices, amazing
selection, knowledgeable staff
RC Dicks foods - West st. paul
Hampden park coop - Raymond between University and energy park dr.
(competative on many things, and cheaper on surprising things like
spices) - disclaimer: we're members
Taste of Thailand - Selby west of Snelling Best.Oyster.Sause.Ever
Fabulous Ferns - selby close to the cathedral (Yeah I know they're
supposed to be evil for the stadium, but they have great food and great
service and reasonable prices.)
Boca Chica - west side
Golden Leaf - uptown
Vendors at the st. paul farmers market (especially the herb man who has
amazing plants and tons of knowledge)
Toast to bread - Best.Bread.Ever
Kowalskis - a big chain as local ones go, but still local
Shuang Cheng - dinkytown great lunch specials
Kafe 421 - dinkytown surprisingly good odd combinations and fabulous
tomato basil soup
Purple Onion - dinkytown (coffee)
vescios - dinkytown (they have another location too - good italian)
Surdyks
Pings - south edge of down town - indescribably good food, great
service
Jitters/The Times Cafe - by surdyks whatever that area is called
Kitchen Window - uptown
That's all I can think of now, though I'm sure there's more.
