Several people have mentioned crime as one of their main concerns.
The Mpls Police Dept. is putting on training for people interested in
becoming block leaders. The training is to develop skills for
effectively working with your neighbors on crime and other issues in
the community. Details for this training are at the bottom of this
email.
Also, Sue Roethele is the Crime Prevention Specialist for precinct
3. She came over to our house one evening and gave us several tips
on how to make our house and garage more secure. It takes about a
half-hour and is free. We found this to be very helpful. Sue can be
reached at <email obscured>.
One last thing. The police department sends out weekly email updates
on crime in the precinct. Unfortunately, I can't remember how we
signed up. I'm sure that Sue can help you.
Hope this is helpful,
Larry and Patti

You should be able to go to http://service.govdelivery.com/service/user.html?code=MPLS to sign up for Minneapolis alerts.
Thanks Larry and Andrew. It looks like Ericsson is covered by Crime Prevention Specialist Sue Roethele and Standish is served by Karen Notche - http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/outreach/safe-teams.asp . In addition to inviting Sue and Karen on to the forum, can others recommend police officers who regularly serve our neighborhoods to invite on to the forum? While the one-way crime alert services are great, in this space we get to talk about trends and solutions. It would be nice to see some of those who work to protect us in the exchange from time to time (or at least correcting the record if need be). Also, Larry uncovered a feature I hadn't mentioned yet - you can send attachments/upload files. Instead of the files cluttering up mailboxes, our software inserts a link at the bottom of posts. This means you can attach really big files without worries. In this case I've also cut and paste the text from the flyer Larry forwarded in case you missed the link. It is below. I found some weekly crime maps as well from: http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/crime%2Dstatistics/codefor/index.asp Does anyone know where one can see a cumulative crime map focused in our neighborhoods? Steven Clift Forum Co-Host

If you look around the Minneapolis Police site, http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/crime-statistics/ , you can find some pretty good information. Sometimes I think you need to actually be part of the police force to understand what they are talking about and the PDF's images do not match the legend unless you have the zoomed in enough. I would really recommend the alerts. They are pretty timely and informative. One of the emails is the weekly highlights, http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/police/crimealert/2008-03-17-MPD-Highlights.asp . The other emails are alerts like if there was a murder or a high frequency of something. The other thing we can use on the e-democracy site is the Wiki thats available, http://pages.e-democracy.org/Standish_Ericsson . I posted some things about a year or so ago.
