Get Your Pom-Pom On!!!
Get set for the biggest ever pom-pom yarnstorm Bristol has ever seen – an
explosion of colour on North Street to celebrate the start of British Summer
Time
28th March will see North Street in BS3 explode in a riot of colour. For
the last 4 months hundreds of people have been involved in making 9000 pom poms
and counting! Ready to decorate the street like a huge rainbow.
Participants have included residents in Amerind Grove Nursing Home who took
part in 4 free workshops, children at Southville Primary school who made pom
poms to win house points, Luckwell and Ashton Gate schoolchildren and many
families who have held pom-pom parties at home.
Vicky Harrison from Paper Village who organised the project said “It has
really captured everyone’s imagination and created a buzz about the streets,
young and old have all joined in”
Wool was provided by Bedminster Town Team (the Business Improvement
District), by Paper Village and through donations. Many small businesses have
joined in and will be decorating the front of their premises.
The pom-poms will decorate the street starting with red at one end and violet
at the other. Lots of creative ways are being found to display them from
simple garlands to elaborate structures covered in pom poms, to pom-pom
gladioli planted in flowerbeds.
There is still time to get involved. Contact Paper Village if you want to
make pom-poms, or make pom-pom garlands in readiness or turn up at the shop at
200 North Street at 10 am on Saturday 28th March to volunteer to decorate.

Victoria Park Wildlife Work Morning, Saturday 4th April 10.30am
VPAG is organising an occasional Work Day (possibly monthly), focussing on
wildlife conservation but embracing any other useful jobs that the VPAG Ctte
becomes aware of. You are invited to join one on Saturday 4th April, 10.30am
- 2pm, if you'd like a bit of exercise over the Easter weekend!
Jobs VPAG is currently aware of are:
* carry on clipping the sprouting bases of the lime trees along the main
paths.
* clearing any residual leaf-fall areas (notably the tree-d hilltop shallow
hollow north of Mrs Brown's).
* wildflower seeding, if Parks have done the spraying of proposed wildflower
patches in the rough grass areas (omitting areas the Primary schools may wish
to do).
VPAG will organise tools. But if you have your own (loppers, leaf rake, seed
rake, etc.) bring them along! Either just turn up, or let Gavin know if you
might be coming so he can review the tools situation. Gavin Smith VPAG

Blooming Bedminster
We need to tell everyone about it! Please come along to our Blooming
Bedminster launch photo shoot on Tuesday 7 April, 6.15pm by the home zone on
Stackpool Road (between Southville Primary School and Faithspace). We've got a
big Blooming Bedminster banner but if you can bring any gardening related props
(gardening gloves, watering cans, towels etc) to add to the photo that would be
great. The more the merrier - bring your gardening friends!
Posters and postcards are on the way - We're having these printed and so will
have them to distribute from 7 April - please help get them up all over Greater
Bedminster (and beyond). There will also be Blooming Bedminster adverts in the
Pigeon in May, June, July, August and September, and all of the events will be
listed on the www.bloomingbedminster.org.uk webpage.
