The Minneapolis Issues Forum is large "online townhall" about city
issues going back to 1998 with over 2,000 members.
Facebook?
There are extensive exchanges happening on Facebook.
Via the Mpls@ forum we have been sharing links from across social
media to broaden community awareness of what is being exchanged within
many silos of communication.
As Facebook is technically designed to show the things that you "like"
the most, it creates a real echo chamber among those most like you. If
you "like" content about a certain view, it gives you a lot more of
that kind of content. This is causing a HUGE divide in the sense of
reality among various groups in the community ... sort of like you get
among people who only watch MSNBC versus FOX.
Let's be intentional about connecting across this technology driven wedge.
So, if you have news and links to share on what is going on or would
like to be part of an online exchange that focuses on - listening to
each other from diverse opinions - that has essential civility rules,
please join us on the the citywide forum: http://e-democracy.org/mpls
