As you know, many of the businesses & organizations that make East Lake
Street the vibrant, diverse space that it is have made or will be making
the difficult decision to close their doors as their part in slowing the
spread of covid 19. This has been and will be devastating for small
businesses around the country. That impact is felt even more acutely in low
income commercial nodes like ours, where small businesses support the
financial stability of so many immigrant and bipoc owners and employees.
Please consider making East Lake Street and the surrounding blocks part of
your vision in bringing positive healing to our community. If you are going
for daily (respectfully distant) walks, perhaps you choose to make the
corridor part of your regular route. If you or your kids are making
positive messaging for neighbors by way of signs & sidewalk chalk, bring
some up to lake and post on poles or sidewalks. Pick up a trash grabber &
supplies at Welna and help to clear some litter on your way. Notice
businesses and spaces you'd like to visit in the future and make sure you
do so when the time comes. Dream up something totally different and do
that. Many children and families live & work along the corridor, and the
more positive activity we can see during this time (and all times) the
better.
Lots of love & healing to you all-
Anna
