Well, isn't this interesting. Mr. Fletcher was up close and personal with a similar residency issue a few years back, a kerfuffle many of us recall. Jeanne Weigum
Previous Sheriff Bob Fletcher, now mayor of Vadnais Heights thinks an accusation will stick no matter what. After Sheriff Fletcher was unelected from office, both Sheriff Matt Bostrom and Sheriff Jack Serier have been doing great jobs. Their philosophy of hiring and promoting for character has been getting national media attention. This bugs Fletcher to no end.
So Fletcher comes up with a controversy of the week usually based on nothing. He sends an email to other mayors, the county board and media. Fletcher so loves being in the limelight that he will do anything to get attention.
Current Sheriff Jack Serier lived on the East Side of St Paul on the day of his appointment. There is a utility bill in his name. Part of the appointment process is checking all the legal requirements. Fletcher's accusation is not true. It is not even a timely issue. It was checked and resolved long before now.
Fletcher is doing this because he knows that law enforcement at any level do not like to advertise where they live. Every person in law enforcement has arrested very dangerous people who promise revenge. Lucky that Sheriff Jack's children are now grown ups because otherwise that could be a danger.
Welcome to the Fletcher Follies. Being totally wrong does not stop the flow.
The only question is what media would fall for this.
