Plans for a New Nursery in Your Area
The Southville Community Development Association (SCDA) is planning to open a
new nursery to serve the BS3 area. This would be on the site at the corner of
Chessel Street and Garnet Street, currently home to the Boys’ Brigade.
The SCDA wants to hear about community issues, concerns and offer ideas before
anyplans get finalised, so please call
in to our:
Drop-in Day:
Saturday 21st February, any time between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Boys Brigade
Hall
People from the SCDA will be there to talk to you, as will the architect and
others. There will also be several ways for you to contribute your views. Some
sketch designs will be on display but they will not be final: we are coming to
you early enough for your input to help the plans improve.
Come along if you possibly can because that’s by far the most useful thing for
you and us. But if you can’t make it that day, much of the information will
also be here on the SCDA website www.southvillecentre.org.uk. You can comment
there if you wish.
A Bit of Background
Who are the SCDA?
Southville Community Development Association (SCDA) is the charity that runs an
84-place nursery at the Southville Centre on Beauley Road (rated Outstanding by
Ofsted). However we have more than 200 families on our waiting list, so the
Chessels site could help us meet the growing demand for nursery places in your
neighbourhood.
What are the proposals?
The site is formally registered as an 'Asset of Community Value' so we are keen
to ensure that what we do retains or adds to that ‘value’. We aim to develop a
nursery, a meeting space for use by the community and office space for staff.
The meeting room would enable the building to continue to be used by local
groups such as Slimming World who meet there now.
Will there be any negative impacts?
We hope that our plans would provide positive benefits to the local community
but, like any development, it's important that we consider any potential
negative impacts and try to mitigate against these.
Can people have a say?
That’s exactly why we are running this drop-in. If you make it to the drop-in
you can tell us about issues, offer ideas and comment on emerging designs.
However, if you miss out then, we aim to let you know when the planning
application goes in so that you can comment at that stage.
Have we bought the site?
We have not finalised the sale with the Boys Brigade yet; however, our
discussions are progressing well. We hope that the sale can be
finalised by the end of March 2015.
