> Citizens Acting for Rail Safety is partnering with the Water Bar to hold a
public conversation about the risks hazardous freight trains bring to our
watershed. Every day trains carrying highly flammable crude oil, ethanol and
other hazardous materials travel by rail through the Twin Cities often crossing
or traveling beside precious waterways, putting at risk our water supply and
critical wildlife habitat.
>
> Join us on July 9th, 2016 (any time between 3-7 pm) for an interactive public
conversation to learn more about these hazards and how we can take action
together to protect our water and improve public safety. The event will feature
Representative Frank Hornstein who will give an update on Minnesota rail safety
legislation at 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm, conversations with other public officials
at the water bar over flights of local water, creative mapping and screen
printing activities and opportunities to get more involved.
>
> Water in the Blast Zone is being held in conjunction with other July Week of
Action events across North America marking the anniversary of the July 6, 2013
oil train derailment in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec that killed 47 people.
