Hello again. Vacation is over, I guess.
There was a flawed and unclear national intelligence estimate released by the
Bush administration in 2007 that made some reporters believe and write that
Iran had given up on nukes. A few years earlier Iran had halted part of the
program, delivery, I think; they had completed this stage or found their plan
or source, presumably. The administration did not correct the misconception and
the resulting deemphasis on Iran nukes was damaging to our efforts. It has
little relevance to the current agreement that Trump just bailed out on.
The negotiations are over for the US and Iran. All news disseminated from
anywhere but the White House indicate that negotiations are over and unlikely
to resume given that Trump has undermined those who were willing leaving only
the hardliners to salvage the deal with the EU in the face of Trump sanctions.
Youāve heard from Trumpās coauthor of Art of the Deal and Trumpās doctor about
the manufacture of his desired reality and as long as thereās no nuclear
football involved, that would never hurt anyone but his customers and others
with whom he contracts.
Now heās POTUS, weāre screwed like everyone else heās dealt with unfairly over
the years, but now it can lead to Armageddon. Why do you suppose the Trump
enterprise funds all their projects with their own money now? You think maybe
lenders lack trust? Are they stupid? Is anyone who deals with Trump? Only those
who must, do; thanks to the American electorate, thatās us and the rest of the
world.
I suspect if anything comes from the meeting with North Korea in Shanghai, it
will be up to the Chinese and South Korea to accomplish in spite of Trumpās
usual bluster.
Why canāt he embrace Zero? No nukes would be a good way to approach all nuclear
capable countries if he wants to deal, but he inflames both friends and enemies
alike. If he is to take any new track with Iran or North Korea, it must be part
of a global nuclear disarmament treaty effort at this point and not with any
one rogue nation.
We may still have time to stop the war that everyone loses. Iām in a lousy
frame of mind as Iāve finally read the book one of you recommended, How the End
Begins by Ron Rosenbaum. It was worth the read, written long before these days
of Trump and published during President Obamaās first term. Heās written a
whole lot on Trump as well, some quite recently.
Rosenbaumās book also describes the mistake by much of the press in reporting
the end of Iranās nuclear arms program and the long time efforts of both
conservatives and lefties towards Zero nukes.
