I hope you all are staying safe in this cold, snowy winter weather. Don’t
forget that the Minneapolis Snow Emergency stays in effect through Wednesday.
As Minnesota hits record low temps, it is important for us to take extra
precautions. Please keep in mind pets should not be taken outside unless
absolutely necessary, as they are susceptible to frostbite on their ears and
paws. Below are a few additional reminders and helpful tips for how families
can stay warm:
Here's what families need to know to stay warm:
• Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board locations are open until 6:00 p.m.
today and some have free meals for kids. MPRB locations will close at 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 29 and will remain closed through Wednesday, Jan. 30
• Hennepin County Library locations will remain open their regular hours; any
emergency closures will be announced via social media and on their website.
• People can remain on Metro Transit buses and light rail during the cold
weather as long as they're not disruptive.
• YouthLink MN has an emergency warming shelter open 24 hours a day during the
cold weather. The shelter is located at 41 N 12th St, Minneapolis, MN 55403.
• The Bridge for Youth is providing around the clock warming station and
overflow space for runaway and homeless youth in need. They are located at 1111
West 22nd Street, Minneapolis in Uptown.
• Call Greater Twin Cities United Way at 211 to be connected to resources 24
hours a day, including food, shelter, and warm weather clothing.
• Hennepin County Government has a list of cold weather resources on their
website:
• The City of Minneapolis Government Sick and Safe Time ordinance allows
parents and guardians whose employers are located within Minneapolis to use
sick leave on days school is closed due to weather.
