Letter from Kim O'Brien:
Hello,
I am writing on behalf of Ward 5 City Councilmember Amy Brendmoen to invite you
to attend a city and community meeting to discuss a holistic approach to
various issues affecting the Railroad Island neighborhood of Saint Paul.
Please mark your calendar for:
Spotlight on Railroad Island Community Meeting
Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 6:00-7:30 pm
Merrick Community Services, 715 Edgerton Street
This invitation includes leadership and key staff from Saint Paul City
Departments including Police, Department of Safety & Inspections, Planning &
Economic Development, and Parks & Rec. As well as representatives from Ramsey
County, District 5 Community Council, residents, and social service agencies
serving the area. If you know of an organization that should be included,
please invite them as well.
The goals of the meeting include:
1) To increase awareness of needs, problems and opportunities in the
neighborhood.
2) To share work groups are doing in the neighborhood currently.
3) To determine opportunities to address needs.
4) To assign action steps.
It is true that a single, brief meeting will not begin to address the on-going
needs of this pocket of the city. It is also true that a lot of important work
is happening here already. It is our hope to tie existing work together,
develop a deeper understanding of needs and opportunities in Railroad Island,
and to identify immediate and long-term strategies to address them.
Thanks to District 5 and others for helping get the word out to residents.
Thanks to Merrick Community Services for offering their space. I will send out
an agenda ahead of the meeting in the coming week. We hope you and/or members
of your team will attend and embrace a challenge to make a meaningful change to
the trajectory of this neighborhood.
Sincerely,
Kim
