On October 30th Mayor Spicer held a Spook-Tacular in City Hall from 4:00 to
6:30 PM. All our Departments were required to participate by giving out candy.
At 7:00 PM the same night, the City Council Meeting was held right downstairs
from the Mayorâs office. Neither Mayor Spicer nor the COO, Thatcher Kezer,
were in attendance.
During the Council Meeting residents spoke about unsustainable tax increases
and the need for the City to cut spending. This was followed by the discussion
and votes on the $98 million appropriation for the Fuller Middle School and the
setting of the tax rate (News flash â average residential rates will increase
by about $100 dollars and if the Fuller Middle School vote passes there will be
another increase of about $100 per year).
Members of the City Council asked if anyone knew the Mayorâs position on the
tax rate decision and said she is the one who determines the City budget.
Heaven help us! The Mayor seems to spend much of her time on fluff and photo
opportunities. Why did she hold the âSpook-Tacularâ when there were already
events being held by the Parks Department and both Libraries? What did the
lost productivity of our Departments cost the taxpayers?
The Mayor needs to stop with the âTricksâ and do the hard work of controlling
the Cityâs spending.
