I have Partnership with the Fire Service which gives me access to some
wonderful people and wonderful ways of helping improve things within the
communities we live in. For instance Windmill Hill/Victoria Park has a high
incidence of fire setting and so the Fire Service now provide a professional
coach to play football once a week with the kids (not the kids who set the
fires incidentally) and the incidence of fire setting has reduced up there.
I also have access, via the Fire Service, to the Community Service Order team.
The Fire Service is shortly meeting with Senior Management within the Probation
Service to discuss the setting up of a referral system so that communities can
access the team more easily (though exactly how has yet to we worked out) and I
have been asked to come up with some ideas that can demonstrate how "better
community outcomes could result from targeted work". For example in this years
Visual Audits I have noted how dirty the pavements are and have made a request
for the team to wash the pavements on East Street. This looks good so far and
if it goes ahead and is successful I'll be asking for the same for North Street
and West Street.
If anyone has any ideas - no matter how outlandish or bizarre they sound -
please get in touch. This is an excellent opportunity to do more for the
community.
