I respectfully disagree with the post relative to not understanding how a
person can enjoyably play the slot machines. We all have different hobbies or
recreation that we enjoy, that are probably not enjoyable to other people. As
long as it doesn't cause harm to anyone or anything, it is our choice and in a
state where our motto speaks to freedoms, we should be able to do so.
However, my biggest disagreement is with the reference to racing Greyhounds
being exploited dogs forced to race and killed at the end of the season for
being losers. First Greyhounds, like Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds, are bred
to race, they love to race and are by no means forced to do so, they do so with
tails wagging. Second, because New Hampshire had the strictest of dog racing
enforcement rules in the country, each and ever race dog that enter this State
was tracked during its entire time in this State, the kennels, turn out pens,
food & veterinary care were inspected and photograph monthly, and all dogs no
longer racing, whether injured or "losers", were placed in approved adoption
programs, not killed. Only severly injured or terminally ill greyhounds could
be euthanized and when it was done, it was done humanely by a Commission
veterinarian. And finally dog racing has absolutely NOTHING to do with
expanded video gambling so why these erroneous statements pertaining to it were
allowed in this forum is beyond me, but since they were allowed, they should at
least be factual & accurate.
And last, since people want references as to facts presented, I am the Racing
Enforcement Supervisor for this state and it was my job to make sure dogs were
treated properly.
