The intersection at 38^th Street and Chicago Ave. in Minneapolis has
been closed for 3 ½ months now to cars. I live ½ mile from this
intersection. I have been trying to get a straight answer from my
council person as to when this intersection will re-open. I am glad that
the Star Tribune has now brought up this issue.
Before the intersection was closed on Memorial Day, thousands of cars
drove through this area. A handful of prolific protesters are trying to
stop the re-opening by presenting a list of ridiculous demands before
they âallowâ it to be re-opened. There is a green area a block from the
intersection where they can just as easily conduct protests. We
theoretically live in a democracy, so the thousands of drivers should
weigh much heavier than the 50 or so protesters. The protestersâ demands
have no more authority than if I got together with 50 buddies and
demanded the city create a spot for us.
I would be glad to go this intersection to provide moral support for the
city to clear out the blockades and re-open up these streets for the people.
