I joined the forum after learning about it at the Highland festival a couple of
months ago. I've lived here for just over five years and love it. Proximity to
Minnehaha Falls (and the park) and the river make this a spectacular location
for birding. Just this year I've had eastern bluebird, scarlet tanager,
Baltimore oriole, and a rose-breasted grosbeak in my backyard (of course it was
an exceptionally good migration). I am still hoping for a turkey--I've seen one
a block away.
My passions are nature (you may have guessed), books (many kinds--fiction,
poetry, economics, religion, politics, environment), sustainability and buying
local (still room for improvement here), discovering new restaurants (and
eating at old favorites), and beer (lots of good local beer in the Twin
Cities).
One of the things I love best about this neighborhood is its walkability. We
can walk to several restaurants, a movie theater, a wine bar (with a good beer
selection), several parks, and a decent food market. And if we don't feel like
walking, we're also close to bus lines and light rail. Nigh on perfect.
And I would be remiss if I didn't mention how safe I feel in this neighborhood.
I was amazed when I first moved in at all the people that were out
walking--alone even--at night! I moved here from a neighborhood where I
sometimes got nervous walking from the garage to the house at night. And I have
not once heard gunshots in my five years here. This is a little slice of
heaven.
