-* Join "More to Tri" and show the nation how fit Minneapolis is *- There's
still time for you to join "More to Tri," a series of free fitness events
that will take place at different locations around Minneapolis during the
convention. "More to Tri" involves the activities which make up a
traditional triathlon swim, bike, run but this time the events will be
staged separately September 1-3 to showcase our urban green landscape and
highlight the area's commitment to healthy and active lifestyles. Runners,
bikers and swimmers are invited to participate in one, two or all three
events. Click here for more info

- The next mural in the SENA *"Take Back 38th Street Mural Project"* is
slated for the eastern-facing wall of "Dreamhaven Books" - the mural will be
painted Saturday, Sept 6, 10:00-4:00 p.m.
This is a neighborhood project painted by volunteers of all ages, and its
main goals are to reduce graffiti, build community, and provide a visual
asset to all who live around and travel 38th street. The design will be
sketched out on the wall by the artist next week, and then everyone
participates in painting in the colors and nuances on September 6th! Don't
be intimidated if you've never done this sort of thing, there's plenty of
guidance available from the artist.
Design ideas requested:
Anything is possible for this mural. If you close your eyes and imagine a
60'x15' wall of a comic/fantasy bookstore, do you see anything? How about a
feeling, a color, a story, a quote? Are there images of Minneapolis/this
neighborhood that might work thematically? The current forest-green
background will be the backdrop. No images of superheroes, published
comics/fantasies, etc. are possible, since they are copyrighted, but the new
owner would like to see something along those lines. The artist, Elise
Kyllo, will be at the wall on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. if you would like to
join her and share ideas. Otherwise, send all ideas to her at
<email obscured> Initial design parameters will be solidified this Friday,
so any suggestions before then are encouraged.
We invite everyone to join in painting on Saturday, September 6th, from
10:00-4:00 p.m. If you are available and interested in participating, or
know someone who might be, please email <email obscured> so we can
have enough supplies and snacks on hand - all you need to bring is
enthusiasm and clothes that can get paint smudges on them!
- *Twilight ($18) and Evening ($14) discount rates at Minneapolis public
golf courses* are bumped an hour earlier after Labor Day to 3:00 p.m. for
Twilight rates, and 5:00 p.m. for Evening rates.
