I just stopped by the Cub Foods store on University Avenue in the Midway
area.
That store is CLEAN!
Why does the Cub Foods store on 26th such a pig sty?

Try Seward - it's always tidy, clean and sanitary.

Those are the two dirtiest grocery stores I have ever seen. Even the one in
Richfield and Quarry look like Lunds next to those gross, filty stores.
I agree
Stick with the Seward, the cheese is fantastic, the produce looks better and
better...

The answer, in my opinion, is good old fashioned competition.
Early last year, both the Midway Cub Foods and Rainbow (about 2 blocks
apart) were getting major facelifts. I was a bit puzzled by this,
until I realized that a SuperTarget was about to open another block
away.
Then it all made sense. Both Cub and Rainbow were updating their
stores to try and keep customers when SuperTarget opened.
At least, that's my theory - and it makes good sense.
So if you want to get your Cub Store cleaned up, all you have to do is
build another major supermarket (must be brand new) in the
neighborhood - and that will get their attention.

Has anyone thought to contact the management of the stores to voice their
concerns about the Cub pig sty, and isn't that description slightly harsh?
There is a better option anyway. It's the Seward Co-op. It seems to me that
it's what's going inside our bodies that's important, not a little dirt on the
floor.

All my friends and many U students refer to the Lake Street Cub and Rainbow
both as "ghetto" as in "lets get to the ghetto Cub" or the "Ghetto Rainbow."
The dilapidated and outdated interiors and obnoxiously high presence of
low-income residents needing to process food stamps and such makes it our
favorite place to buy booze related items at the cheap such as mixers and
crackers. And you know what, the Cub on Broadway in Near North is far nicer and
has a larger selection than this one. If the Quarry Rainbow wasn't faster to
get to, I'd probably go to the northside than go south to the Lake Street. Just
the truth! Seward is nice but beyond the budget of someone who doesn't have a
pension-fund.

Seward Co-op is a terrific place to by real food, and I have neither
a "pension-fund" nor a trust fund. I can see how things to mix with
or suck up booze might better be bought elsewhere.
To the specific point of the thread - I was in Target on Friday, and
their remodel will really improve the space. Perhaps that will raise
the bar for the whole area.
