Please consider making a few phone calls this am to state legislators,
joining with the St. Paul Public Schools, Education Minnesota, Minnesota
Rural Education Association, Association of Metropolitan School Districts,
Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius and others to help defeat Senate
File 3178 and House File 2816
These bills would rate Mn public schools 1-5 stars SOLELY on the basis of
test scores and high school grad rates. VERY simplistic, don't you think?
Misses a lot of important things that schools should do, right?
We're suggesting a statewide conversation over the next 6 months to discuss
the top priorities for Minnesota public schools - and ways to measure those
things.
Please call 2-4 legislators this am to oppose SF 3178 and HF 2816
Key people to call include: Rep Jen Loon, 651 296-7449, Rep Roz Peterson,
651 296-5387, Rep Carlos Mariani 296-9714; Sen Eric Pratt, 296-4123, Sen
Susan Kent, 651 296-4166, Sen Carla Nelson, 651 296-4848, Rep Rena Moran
296-5158; Rep Jim Davnie, 296-0173, and Sen John Hoffman, 651 296-4154.
Thanks for considering this.
Joe Nathan, St. Paul resident
