Essential Qualifications
• Valid Minnesota School Social Worker license
• Keen expertise in best practices working with youth in an urban setting
• An understanding of complex trauma
• Knowledge and experience in the counseling of teens and young adults,
individual, in groups, and with families
• Experience with case management and crisis-interventions
• Excellent interpersonal skills with both adults and students
• Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and extreme patience
• Ability and willingness to collaborate with colleagues
• Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills
• Understanding and belief in Augsburg Fairview Academy’s unique mission and
vision
• A commitment to self-care
Desirable Qualifications
• Experience as a Social Worker in an urban high school
• Experience collaborating with students, families, and the diverse communities
our school serves
• Track record of success serving youth with significant developmental risk
factors
• Experience working with special education and IEPs
• Training and experience with Response to Intervention or Positive Behavioral
Interventions and Supports
• Social Work experience in a charter school
Essential Job Functions
• Caseload of general education and special education students, including
individual, group, and family meetings
• Assess student functioning, in home, school, and community, both formally and
informally
• Mobilizing and coordinating community resources for students in need of
mental health care, alcohol and drug counseling, child care, pregnancy
resources, sexual health resources, and resources to combat homelessness
• Case-management and crisis intervention for students
• Communicating and collaborating with teachers and staff about important
student issues
• Working with students, parents, teachers, and student support team to address
challenges to students’ academic progress and their social, emotional and
behavioral development
• Recording, reporting, and evaluation student social, emotional, and
behavioral data
• Participating in Individual Education Plan meetings
• Participating in professional development activities
