When Carolyn Johnson Wesenberg was 7 years old, her father, a surgeon,
gave her some homework. She was quarantined for three weeks because she had
chicken pox, and he asked her to practice tying suture knots. "He told me
that he wanted me to work with him someday," she recalled.
