On July 21st, the City Council voted 10-1 and passed Order # 2020-033-003,
which put into place a six to nine month moratorium on new apartment and
multifamily approvals. This would be merely a pause to allow the new residences
to fill, and for the effects on traffic, crime, schools, taxes and safety to be
studied. On August 24th the Mayor vetoed the order. The order however is not
dead in the water and a vote to overturn the veto is scheduled to take place on
Thursday September 3rd. A two-thirds vote by council to override the veto will
right the ship and the long awaited moratorium will be realized.
