Hi Colin,
We've been in several times for drinks although have sat on the armchairs/sofas
by the entrance, which feel like they're for people waiting to be seated,
rather than a table.
The staff are always welcoming at The Black Boy.

More than willing to have drinkers! We change our bitter weekly and have guest
ciders, and a beer garden. Do pop in, if you can. Abi Rose

The freehold has been sold to Everards by Greene King. We are on a twenty five
year lease and are not going anywhere! Only difference is a bigger range of
beers.

That's good news Abi!
I'll certainly spread the word as I and others had thought a change of style
might be in the offing...
Maybe a Press Release would be advisable to ensure that all your very satisfied
customers know that it's still Business as Usual? Just a thought...

I see the Black boy pub is going to reopen, there were rumours of the dodo pub
company who opened the Somerset ( or should I say up in arms?!) taking over the
pub, does anyone know if this is true? I hope so!

I have no idea, but having seen how Dodo have transformed the old Somerset, I
would be delighted if it were true.
Iβve been there twice in the last ten days. Both times it was packed. They have
certainly found the winning formula for that part of Marston.

Nothing has been announced officially yet, and the new website for the Black
Boy is as dead as ... a dodo:
http://www.blackboyoxford.co.uk/
The Black Boy was incorporated as a private limited company on 19 August 2020,
and the directors are Simon and Samantha Stonehouse of Tetsworth:
https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/12164766
Does that mean it doesn't belong to Everards any more?
Dodo certainly are picking up empty pubs in Oxford and give them all silly
names (The Rusty Bicycle, The Rickety Press, The Bottle of Sauce, and the Up in
Arms). They also have a pub in Reading called The Last Crumb.

Sorry, I meant 19 August 2019 in the last message.
"Does that mean it doesn't belong to Everards any more?"
Not necessarily, if Everards operate like most other pub co's then each tenant
landlord run their own franchise. So it is an independent business that has a
contract that allows them to use the building in return for buying their
supplies from the pub co and paying a monthly management fee.
While some people would sign up to such an arrangement as individuals, the more
business savvy would form a company and have the company enter into the
contract. As a company is a separate legal entity it means they can keep their
business and personal finances completely separate.

Sadly doesn't look like Dodo then. Lamb catering are good but will it really be
a pub?
a pub?
Judging by the limited web site ('eat drink stay'} as much of a pub as under
the previous operators.
the previous operators.
The Blackboy is still owned by Everards. The kitchens and ground floor are
undergoing complete refurbishment and the new tenants are expected to move in
sometime in October. As far as I am aware it will remain a gastro pub.
