We are organising an event to mark the annual Buy Nothing Day on 24th
November and are looking for people who want to contribute. Our vision is a
day of workshops in which people can make their own cards, presents and
things for themselves as well as a free shop and swap-shop. We want to
encourage Brighton and Hove transitioners, freecyclers, bookcrossers and
anyone else to come and contribute, whether by running a workshop, bringing
stuff to swap or give away or just coming along to have some fun and make or
find something new.
Ideas for workshops are currently: Card making, candle-making, tetra-pack
wallets, a shopping-alternatives advisory service, jewellery making and
sewing and knitting workshops. Do you have anything you could add to this?
Could you take on running one of these? Please get in touch and help make
this day fun, productive and a real alternative to mass-consumer christmas
shopping.
In order to honour the day properly we would also love any donations of
materials, arts and craft supplies, recyclable wax, etc and loans of
equipment (eg sewing machine).
Many thanks,
Jo.
