Happy holidays, Westwood Neighbors,
Did you see the article in the latest Community Newsletter about Recycle
Coach <https://solutions.recyclecoach.com/> It's a handy reminder app you
can put on your smart phone for free (iTunes App store and Google Play).
It's very simple, and a good way to remember which week is your recycling
(and now textile/small household goods) week, what can and can't go in the
recycling cart, when hazardous waste day is, etc.
While we're on the subject (and since I'm in the biz)... with the holiday
glut of discards upon us, give the folks that sort your recyclables a gift
- Recycle Smart! Items like ribbon, gift wrap*, foam packing material,
plastic bags, bubble wrap and holiday light strings wreak HAVOC at the
sorting facility, and are now costing Westwood "contamination surcharges".
If they can't be reused or recycled elsewhere (i.e. packing peanuts to a
UPS store, plastic bags to the supermarket), please put them in the trash.
If it won't all fit in your trash cart, overflow bags
<http://www.townhall.westwood.ma.us/gov/depts/pubworks/managernw/trashpickup.htm>
are available for sale at Roche Brothers, Walgreens and the DPW on Carby St.
* only very plain gift wrap with some substance can actually be made into
new paper. Foil, plastic-y and thin easily ripped paper can't, and can
ruin a load.
You can learn what goes in the cart and what doesn't through the Recycle
Coach app, or at the website <http://ssrcoop.info/index.php/recycling-101-2>
I operate,
Happy solstice, Christmas, Diwali, Hanukkah, new year and whatever else you
celebrate!
