Greetings Consumer Forum Colleagues,
Clearly, within our group there are plenty of ideas and lots of energy for
educating the general public about practicing environmentally friendly life
styles. What a good start.
As we begin to form this group though, I am a little vague and wondering what
the expectations are for our "consumer group forum." Is it our goal to
exchange ideas and offer encouragement and support to each other? Are we going
to plan and collaborate on presenting consumer related events throughout the
Pioneer Valley? My guess is that it really is up to us how we want to make use
of this group's time and talents, but in order to do this maybe it would help
if we started throwing out ideas and seeing what kind of enthusiasm it stirs
up. So, I am willing to take a small initial step. If this is out of line...
my aplogies... please give me a gentle nudge in the right direction.
I see in the press that this past weekend there were "green living expos" in
both the Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires. Unfortunately, due to a prior
commitment, I was not able to attend, but I was encouraged to see that they are
happening. Should we be talking about preparing and printing up material that
can be distributed as free handouts in local businesses that will keep this
issue in the forefront of consumer's minds as they shop? I am sure that you
folks have other good ideas to offer.

Mary,
You're on a great track here. This group was designed to be a place
where consumers could share ideas and prepare proposals for the Clean
Energy Plan. We can generate ideas here and present them to the wider
group. Once the goals and strategies have been developed, we'll have
the last ten days on this forum to figure out how we're going to
accomplish the strategies adopted. We could volunteer to take
responsibility for doing anything on the list of things in the plan...
or other things on our own. Thanks for your initiative to get us
rolling here!

Thanks Mary
I think that is a great idea. I wish I had known about the Expo here in the
Berkshires. If I may suggest, if someone knows of any events relating to the
environment, it would be great to post the information in the forum(s). Maybe
here and possibly the pub as well?
Also, I would be willing to provide the printing of materials in black & white
if the paper is provided.

As a consumer, I am concerned about the way our actions are contributing to
climate changes that are threatening this fragile world in which we live. So,
I am trying to help in the task of making everyone aware that our purchasing
habits and buying power can make a difference in helping to address this issue.
Locally, I have arranged to screen "An Inconvenient Truth" at St James'
Episcopal Church, 8 Church St., Greenfield on Tuesday, October 24 at 7pm, and
at Trinity Church, Main St, Shelburne Falls, Thursday October 26 at 7pm.
Watching the film is an important first step to raising awareness, but that is
just the beginning. It also challenges us to find ways to collectively address
the question, What can we do about it? Everyone is invited to join in a group
discussion immediately following the screening as the next step towards
responding to this momentous question with hope and creative thinking.
