Last fall, I organized more than twenty small group conversations, across Ward
2 communities, about the future of community safety in Minneapolis. Hundreds of
people attended, and they shared their hopes, fears, and ideas for alternative
responses to calls for help. In the few months since we met, I and my staff
reviewed and grouped the hundreds of comments we heard into some broad themes.
Recently, we have been hosting another set of these small group conversations
to report back about what we heard last year, the impact of this feedback on
the 2021 budget, and to get input on the next steps we can take to improve
safety in our city. These include the public safety charter amendments,
proposed amendments to our civilian police oversight system, and continuing
community engagement on the future of community safety. I am interested in
having follow-up meetings with block clubs or groups I met with last year and
with groups that didn’t have a block conversation last fall.
If you would like to set up a small group meeting on your block, or for your
apartment building, please message me here or email my Policy Aide Robin
