five teenage immigrants experiencing coming of age in the United States. The
documentary focuses on the students of a public school in New York dedicated to
serving immigrant youth. These students must navigate the difficulties of
learning a new language, reuniting and reconnecting with family members
estranged by national borders, and balancing two different sets of cultural
expectations. Amid their challenges, they find success in unity and an
unwavering commitment to their goals.
After the movie, hear from our community panel of immigrant friends,
co-workers, and neighbors. Each with a unique viewpoint and identity, they
contribute to a broad perspective of immigrant and refugee experiences in
Minnesota and illustrate what it means to be a young adult building a home in a
new place.
