2 Marijuana locations approved in Sharon unless...

This is from a Sharon resident Karen and hits close to home so if you know
anyone in Sharon please make them aware of this...

Sharon Town Meeting Monday May 7th at 7pm is important to attend if you do not
desire to have the largest Marijuana (MJ) cultivation/growing facility (large
half acre) in MA, specifically located in Sharon, as well as a 2nd location in
Sharon for a recreational Marijuana retail store. Unless 2/3 rd’s of the Sharon
voters (that’s 66% of those attending) say YES to ban the aforementioned, both
facilities WILL be going up. ‘Say yes to say no’

At the risk of bucking apparently popular opinion, I am more concerned
about the easy availability of alcoholic beverages in our supermarkets and and
opioids in our pharmacies and medical system than marijuana shops on our
youth.

Pot shops and their products will be strictly regulated, much moreso that
the pot which, as my young adult "kids" now tell me, is pretty easily
available on the "street". And while I wouldn't argue that it is harmless,
marijuana use generally doesn't lead to the kinds of dangerous and
destructive behaviors that alcohol and opioids can.

It is possible to find stories and studies that support most any conclusion
about cannabis legalization. I have reviewed some studies and stories that
suggest that the availability of legal pot in other states doesn't result
in "reefer madness". Some even indicate that legalization has been
followed by reduced cigarette, alcohol and opiod use and abuse, and reduced
alcohol-related traffic fatalities, since it may be used as a "replacement"
for those more damaging substances.(here's one https://www.journals.

All in all, I think that the perceived risks are overblown.

I'm not taking a position on the matter, but I prefer policy to be consistent
and evidence-based rather than based upon surmise.

Also, I'd like to observe that home rule is embraced by certain towns
vigorously when it is in their interest. The flip of having home rule is that
others should stay out of their business when they have no right to interfere.
I don't agree with home rule, and think regional, county governance is a much
better thing, but there you have it.
