Steve Minn for $60,000 for development of a park downtown which will
include a gate to keep out the "bums", as Minn referred to the
homeless. Unfortunately, this was passed with only one dissenting
vote..... from Brad Bourn. What a sad statement about the true
sentiments about "One Minneapolis" from the majority of those in
elected seats in our city. The pretense that the ruling class cares
at all for the welfare of the general population is wearing very thin.
Thanks you to Brad Bourn for revealing this. What is frightening about
this revelation and many others along the way, is that, contrary to
most people's beliefs, we cannot elect people who will represent our
interests.
If we really don't want the homeless wandering around downtown, we
should dedicate money toward giving them a bed behind a locked door
where they can sleep securely and a bathroom where they can clean up.
A large majority of homeless people are veterans. Some are mentally
ill people and some, alcoholics and/or drug addicts. Some are
afflicted with all these problems. And some are children. Do any of
these people deserve to be homeless? I went on the annual march
commemorating the homeless who have died in Minnesota in the past
year. There were more than in past years, which was consistent with
the many more people seen begging at most of the major intersections
in Minneapolis.
Shame on the leaders of our city, and shame on those who year after
year take money to solve the problem but never do. (This does not
apply to all agencies, by the way, because some do good work.) Shame
on this city for its priority to build stadiums and other frills
rather than taking care of the primary needs of its inhabitants, and
shame on the city for stealing the people's referendum. I don't care
if Minneapolis is better than some cities. It's a city without a
heart. It's 1% Minneapolis.
