It's totally amazing what is happening in my city today. All over the city, in
every single neighborhood there are buildings open to their residents.
Churches, schools, libraries, park buildings, and people are flocking to them.
One estimate is that 65% of all adult citizens will show up!
While there they will decide who runs our city, our park board. Who sets
taxes, budgets etc. There are significant disagreements about what should be
done. How should we support/control our police, should we have a golf course
for a minority of the population to use, how can we best have employment,
affordable housing, how do we provide city health services, how to welcome
immigrants, or should we be afraid of them, how much should we tax ourselves,
and how much should go to low income people, and how much to rich corporations
to get them to build and hire in our city. More issues than this, but you get
the idea.
No one expects violence to break out, most people are expected to have a calm
pleasant few minutes exercising their franchise. In my polling place, I met
over half a dozen neighbors, stood in line for less than a minute, and I
believe the count will be accurate and fair, and that no matter how
disappointed I, or anyone else is, in a few months, the people elected will
take over with no violence!
Can you believe this? And I hear it’s also happening In St. Paul! In fact, I
have it on good authority that it will occur similarly all over the county!
Wow, have you heard about this?
I have no idea who will win, but I expect to find out tonight. Perhaps it will
take a few days, we will see. I am loving this. It could catch on.
