Minneapolis is looking for hundreds of good men and women!
The 2016 Presidential Election is just around the corner, and the City of
Minneapolis is recruiting for election judges to conduct the August 9
primary and the November 8 general election. Election judges are crucial to
every election — they are the folks assisting voters and helping them cast
ballots in the polls on Election Day. Minneapolis needs approximately 2,000
election judges to ensure a successful Election Day. Could you be one?
Statutory qualifications to serve as an election judge include:
• Eligible to vote in Minnesota
• At least 18 years of age
• Able to read, write, and speak English
• Cannot be a candidate or the spouse, parent or stepparent, child or
step child, sibling or stepsibling of a candidate on the ballot
• Cannot live—either permanently or temporarily—with any candidate on
the ballot
Additionally, in order to best serve our diverse communities, Minneapolis
is especially interested in recruiting those who are proficient in other
languages, particularly Hmong, Somali, and Spanish.
Beyond the civic benefits of serving voters and aiding in the
administration of an election, being an election judge is a fun social
activity with other civic-minded residents, it contributes to your resume
(and shows employers you care about the community), is a good networking
opportunity, and it pays well. Election judges are compensated at $12.60
per hour … and that will increase to $13.30 per hour starting August 1,
just before this year’s primary (Aug. 9).
Check out the City’s elections website for more details and to register now
to serve as an election judge in the 2016 Presidential Election. Double the
fun by bringing a friend, neighbor, or relative with you. As Uncle Sam says:
WE NEED YOU!
