another of the six a day or however many pubs we are loosing annually as a
nation. It appears to be being demolished.
The Planning application is for a new-build 20 room guest house , on the
road to the airport, application number 09/01015/F , from the list of 23rd
March 2009, and nominally Bristol is short of reasonably priced guest
houses.
Whether this is the best use of the same site is another matter.
West Street BS3 has been very badly served with permissions with the
dominant land use transition from car sales to housing generally achieved
with an absence of decent facade architecture.
The Red Cow is one of the few buildings of character in its own vicinity
(although there is an interesting Georgian building close-by) and the
application includes pictures to prove how dire the surrounding architecture
is; as well as the expected structural damnation, though the pictures point
more to a lax maintenance regime with plastic downpipes etc not connected,
(and one possibly suspects missing lead in places) with predictable
consequences for damp.
Anyhow, the purpose of this post is to flag this application up for those
interested but unaware so far, should anyone wish to comment.
And to ask if we have enough conservation area protection in the area
generally?
all best for now
