Star Tribune on page A12. It asserts the lake was named to honor a Lieutenant
Calhoun. At this point it needs to be realized that Calhoun was first affixed
to a body of water on an 1817 Army survey map of what was to become
Minneapolis. There were indeed two Lieutenant Calhouns. The first was James S
born in 1802 (before the Louisiana Purchase) and would have been age 15 at the
time of the map. The other was James born in 1845 long after the Army map.
If we need to honor a Calhoun why not one of these:
Don Calhoun former professional American football running back
George Whitney Calhoun co-founder of the Green Bay Packers NFL football team
Jermie Calhoun running back for the Oklahoma Sooners
Jim Calhoun head coach of the University of Connecticut men's basketball team
Kole Calhoun American Major League Baseball player
Milo Calhoun Jamaican boxer of the 1960s and '70s
William "Haystack" Calhoun professional wrestler
