Dear Ms. Royce & Mr Fratto,
There is no pretension of a compliment. It is completely genuine and sincere.
When I read of Underwood's distrust of police around his kindergarten class, I
knew that sooner or later we would have a very clear example of why Mr.
Underwood is so far removed from reality. That example comes from an officer
just doing his job.

I find my attitude about the police has completely changed as a result of
my experiences that week. I think I would feel somewhat differently if I
believed that there were only a few rogue officers to blame, but to my
knowledge there has been no city investigation of police wrong-doing, no
charges brought at either the city or the county level, not even any public
mention of an internal investigation. Given the lack of any official
rectification, I can only conclude that such behavior has some unofficial
sanction at least. Frankly, at this point I do not trust St. Paul police
officers around my students.
In his own words, not taken out of context, Charley says that he does '... not
trust St Paul police officers around my students.' Call me dense, obtuse or
whatever you want, but to me that means he does not want any of those armed
individuals to enter his classroom, and I just blindly inferred that would
apply to Officer Lunquist, no matter how altruistic he may be. From what Mr.
Underwood has said, he might just believe that Officer Lunquist was one of
those police dressed in black riot gear depriving us of our civil liberties.

My concern is not for my own safety; it is for the safety of my students. I
find it
very disturbing to consider that an armed individual from a group that I
have personally seen to operate above the law would be in close contact
with the young children I teach. I am asking you personally to protect my
children from this danger by asking the officer not to visit my classroom.
I ask you this for the safety of those you have entrusted to my care.
Underwood thinks children are in danger from being around a police officer, and
you think he would appreciate Officer Lunquist. How did you arrive at that
conclusion? I arrived at my conclusion by reading what Underwood wrote.

Steve, what does Officer Lundquist's actions have to do with Mr. Underwood's
position about having an officer with a gun in his classroom?
[answered above]
What does the Mayor's City's budget decision have to do with this?
Frankly, I think we have cut most of government to the bare bones. If
additional cuts need to be made because folks don't want to raise their taxes.
Where was this outrage from you Steve when President Bush cut the Clinton Cops
program?
Mike Fratto

As for Mr Fratto's question, the last time we exchanged messages, I posed a few
questions for him to which he never responded. Since he said I know so little,
I asked for enlightenment. I am still waiting.
I read that the Mayor has a 14% budget cut for the city's departments. The
total salary for the mayor's office is $3.5 million PLUS whatever is spent on
benefits. That means $490,000 plus 14% of benefits. I have read about a 5%
pay cut for the mayor's office and another $200,000 from eliminating a postion.
That is $375,000, a difference of $115,000, WITHOUT the 14% of benefits.
If the mayor is cutting other departments 14%, he ought to begin at home, in
his own department of assistant mayors, etc. I recently read about the
inspectors working 32 hours and 6 being laid off.
Mr. Fratto said I did not understand the situation as well as he does. I ask
Mike to enlighten me. I will be happy to acknowledge the error of my logic or
my arithmetic.
As I noted earlier, if I have to choose between police, firefighters, code
inspectors, or one of the many assistant mayors to lay off for awhile, I would
let an assitant mayor take some time off.
As for the question about Bush, Clinton cops, etc., I think I would hear from
the Monster about staying on a topic related to the city of St Paul.
