fall, with the help of a Community Arts grant from the Metropolitan Regional
Arts Council. Our intention was to create a financially accessible choral
program for high school women that would simultaneously celebrate the wealth of
talented female composers in Minnesota, and challenge and encourage young
female singers. We were able to bring in four of the composers to work with the
ensemble, which added greatly to the success of the program.
Happily, the Lyrebird Young Women's Choir will be happening again this spring.
It's for young women in grades 9-12; we rehearse on Sunday nights, January
24th-May 15th, from 7:00-8:30 at Chanson Voice & Music Academy, 795 Raymond Ave
in St Paul. Tuition is on a sliding scale, $20-$150 pay-as-able. We're sticking
with our theme of singing all music by Minnesotan women composers; there's such
a bounty of music by MN women that we could probably keep this up for years.
We've got plenty of room, so if you know a high school woman who might like to
join—please pass on the information. Email <email obscured> to
register.
AND:
The Lyrebird Youth Choir begins our fourth season this spring. For students in
grades 6-8, we rehearse on Sunday afternoons from 5:00-6:30. This semester
we're singing all music by contemporary American composers, so expect it to be
exciting and challenging! Email <email obscured> to register.
