At an area meeting fairly recently, one local resident enquired about the times
at which Bury Knowle toilets are closed, and I believe this is a valid concern.
The public toilets appear to be closing before the retail outlets shut, which
doesn't seem sensible to me, and the availability of public toilets has
particular importance for some sections of the community, both young and old.
An officer has sent a response on which I would like your comments, as I'm not
entirely sure if he's only focusing on toilets in the City Centre, rather than
further afield. His response reads "All public conveniences should be open
between 08.00 and 17.00 daily and the supervisory team at City Works have been
instructed to ensure that this is complied with."
I have to say that, when I was out and about in Headington leafleting in the
late afternoons and evenings in April and May, I frequently found the public
toilets locked after 4 pm at Bury Knowle and had to leg it down to Brookes at
Gipsy Lane (my employer) in extremis!
Has anyone else found that BK toilets close earlier than 5 pm?
It's a couple of years ago now - maybe more - but I do recall the Headington
Festival being greatly inconvenienced one year by the BK loos being closed at
about 4pm on the Sunday afternoon.
Don't know if it's still an issue, but I've noticed recently that at weekends
even in the middle of the day that some BK cubicles seem permanently closed.
