Firstly Brian, I had better record that the letterboxes I set up as
replacements were new ones to replace some crappy ones that were not
suitable for a new fence I was having built - The replacement had nothing to
do with vandalism. It was just that I was surprised at the final cost.
The letterbox in our front yard was ripped off its mountings some months
ago - but it was not damaged. it was done by local pricks. (NOT boy
racers....)
A correlation does not mean there is a causal relationship so your stats
relating soy and meat pie consumption do not impress me.
I have other things to do than look up websites on this forum - so I have
not looked at the website references you have listed. Sorry. I do
occasionally - but like you say... I'm only being funny.
As an addendum to my ravings about focusing on sustainability while the rest
of the world ignores us... Well, it so happens there is an article in this
morning's "The Press" about the importance of "sustainability" in business.
While it is an interesting article, the fact is, a few years ago it was
"quality" - companies had to have "quality" systems - or they'd go broke....
and there have been a few more "grand principles" (my term) over the years.
In the end, a business survives - or doesn't survive - because it has a
market for its products or services.
However, I still maintain saving a few gallons of paint for re-use or riding
a bicycle will not save resources - just re-distribute them for someone else
to use.
As Nathan the Boy Racer contributor points out. My riding a bicycle only
allows his mates to fill their tanks up (not that they would get much petrol
from me....)
Oh and Brian, if you want to take stats from different sources, why not run
a few along the lines of the increased level of violence that has occurred
since 1: Boxing and wrestling were eliminated from school sports curricula,
2: school cadets and rifle drill were banned in schools. 3: Corporal
punishment in schools was banned. I'm sure you'd find a correlation if you
played around with the figures a bit.
I have an unpublished article called "Memories of Corporal Punishment" that
I would be happy to put on this site. Nathan, you could be interested
because it looks at the motives behind our behaviour relating to punishment
in the old days of strap and cane - and the rest of the forum readers -
well... unless I get a request from at least two participants I WON'T put it
on this site. It is humorous - but tries to explain an aspect of corporal
punishment ignored by the mycelium of workers for social change. And yeah...
I agree, it has nothing to do with Canterbury or e-democracy.
Cheers,
Tim Kerr
