time doing play organizing and advocacy. Sometimes
these two worlds of mine overlap -- as in the making of this video about a new
play activity (i.e. game) some friends and I have been exploring.
The object of this game is to catch table tennis balls being pelted at you from
a table tennis robot. You try to catch the balls with paper cups
that have felt at the bottom of them. When the ball reaches the bottom of the
cup, it goes "thunk," so I'm calling this play activity, "Thunk."
Here is a short video some friends I made this weekend.

We need to be inventing new sports - and new play activities - that have a high
amount of joy associated with them. While the first prototype
of Thunk doesn't have any Raspberry Pi's as part of the game, I'm thinking that
there might be neat ways of bringing that tech into the game in
some ways -- where the Raspberry Pi counts the number of colored balls dumped
into different round plastic buckets. Players of the game would
have to place certain colored balls in certain plastic buckets -- all within a
fixed amount of time.
Gym class doesn't need to be like gym class was before. Let's make gym class so
irresistible that students look forward to it with glee.
