From my notes:
Cameron Sinclair - Architecture for Humanity:
Collecting ideas about the new Christchurch is not enough.
Unless you build the good things you've thought about it doesn't matter.
Architecture for humanity has found new ways to rebuild cities, quickly
and cheaply.
You have to do it with a bottom up process.
Architects need to come here to live to be part of the local community.
The work will take several years, and the important people will be the
ones who are here now and who are still on the task, getting it built in
five years time.

This was inspiring stuff. 400 projects in 44 countries.
Tthe cost of building and repair in Christchurch has already risen in
response to excessive demand. We MUST find a way to build a new
Christchurch that doesn't create a mountain of debt. Keeping the cost of
the work low is one of the serious issues we face.
Architecture for Humanity uses community organisation, professional
architects working pro-bono, volunteer labour, local labour and local
trainees, to build houses and community facilities at very low cost. As
part of building the NEW Christchurch, that sort of thinking certainly
has a big role to play.
NOTICE:
If we are to accept the challenge of rebuilding a NEW Christchurch, this
forum needs to grow much bigger please invite your friends to join. I
can't run 25 forums alone, I need your help.
This is not television. Every one of you has a say here. Help me, help
yourself, by being responsive to the posts.
If we can't have a conversation here, we can't decide what we agree
about, and somone else will make decisions for us. Each one of us is
responsible for what happens (and is currently not happening) here.
