New Hampshire and want the best.
What is the best? A fairly simple fix, or a real solution? I don't have
the answer, but I do raise a question to think about.
Is there another way to generate revenue that would have other outcomes
that are not just raising money to offset state spending? If you look at the
profits that the gambling industry takes in, millions and billions, they are
not in the business to provide states with revenue; they are in it for
their own interest. They just have to pay to get into our state and make
promises to share some of their payoff. The biggest value the industry gives
to
its customers is entertainment and the possibility to win big, get
something for nothing, or for very little. Why has that been our nature, to
have
someone else be responsible for our own needs? Maybe we see that those
individuals or companies that have large incomes find ways through legitimate
ways to pay less in taxes than those who earn moderate incomes. So those of us
with moderate incomes are always looking for ways to get more. We welcome
slots, lottery tickets? Please, tell me the odds once more. The industry
knows we're willing to pay for the dream. In more ways than we know.
So this is my question. Is there an industry that can provide jobs and
revenue but can also lift the community and inspire it to learn more, get more,
attract more positive venues other than provide entertainment and
unfavorable odds? Yes, most people lose money gambling. If you read some of the
articles presented with documented facts, they state that the gambling
revenues are down. Without money and jobs, people have less disposable income
to
use for gambling. Like the stock market, when everything is good more can
make a profit, when it’s bad, it’s bad. So, it’s bad right now. Do we really
want to open our state to this? Show me that the jobs provided by this
industry will be jobs with full time work, full benefits, possibly have a
career path, and pay more than twenty dollars an hour.
Thank you,
