currently has only a landline (phone shows voice mail & missed calls on it, so
this service is not with the current carrier). House also had cable installed
before he bought it 20 years ago, so those jacks are still the wall, and
probably function... There has never been a home network installed with cat-5
wiring and cabling. The devices we will use for now are going to be wireless
enabled, so I don't anticipated needing cabling. Our installer from the service
provider is coming tomorrow, Monday, AM. I would like to go pick up any
necessary phone or adapters or cables we might need this afternoon so that we
will know if everything works right before the installer leaves.
Question: Does anyone know if we can just leave the current phone plugged into
the wall jack (for landline) even though we are cutting off the land line
service and just going with internet voice. I have gotten 4 different
responses from the carrier and a local big box store who sells phones.
Question 2: If we can't use the existing phone, are there "internet" phones
that can use the existing phone jack? Our salesperson for the service provider
said the new phone needs to be ethernet-ready. And, is there a model of phone
that would also record missed calls and messages on the phone device? The
research I've done on the internet and talked with the service provider about
is confusing.
Any insight you can provide would be most welcome!
