I'm new to the Community Gardeners in Minnesota group. I work for a peat
harvester near Aitkin, MN. We have a waste stream from one of our production
processes. The material is a mix of reed-sedge peat and biochar. It ranges from
a dry powder to non-homogenous chunks of clean peat, biochar or wood debris. I
know from past experience that it makes a great amendment for soil. It can be
dusty, but once it's incorporated into the soil it helps to conserve moisture
and increases microbial activity. The material is free for the taking to any
individuals or groups that are interested in hauling it away.
The material is already bagged in super sacks of about 2 cubic yards. Each sack
weighs about 1500 pounds, and the sacks have lifting straps and bottom spouts.
We can load on our end if you can unload on your end. There are about 150 super
sacks available, and we make more every week.
