At TEDx EQChCh 2012 of Saturday he gave a 10 minute talk that got a
standing ovation.
He must have said something that was important.
Here's my take on it.
We live in a city in transition.
Transition is a bit like adolescence it's a time for discovering who you
are and what you can become.
The is a master-plan for the city, that is supposed to be the future
Christchurch in 10, 15 or 20 years from now.
"We cannot know what the best outcome for the city will be."
The plan requires that we live a life dominated by permits.
But if it's temporary you may not need a permit.
Temporary means engaging with now. Being relevant.
Temporary allows you to try things, to experiment.
The opposite of asking for a permit is to get an invitation.
In October 2012 our new organisation "Life in Open Spaces" is inviting
people to fill the vacant spaces in the city with life.
There are lots of things already planned.
