E-mail received in the SENA office from Sue Roethele, CCP/SAFE:
Residents need to be vigiliant about burglaries this week, police warn
The Minneapolis Police Department advises residents to be vigilant
about home security during Thanksgiving week, especially if neighbors
are away. Twenty-six burglaries ---20 houses and 6 garages--- were
reported in 3rd Precinct this past week, Attached is a map of
burglaries since Oct. 1 in Sector 3 of the precinct.
Inspector Lucy Gerold, commander of the precinct, says many recent
burglaries have been taking place during the daytime and have involved
suspects looking in windows, knocking on doors, or ringing doorbells
to see if anyone responds. Flat screen TVs have been targeted along
with other electronics which require a vehicle to haul the loot.
Neighbors who reported suspicious behavior have been instrumental in
helping us arrest 60 burglars this year, she said.
Remember to call 911 on any suspicious activity, including seeing
someone you dont know knocking on your door, walking through a
neighbors yard or hanging around in the driveway. Watch for
unfamiliar vehicles in your alley and get their license plate numbers
to report when you call 911, she added.
What else you can do:
Put your neighborhood watch force to work. Organize your neighbors to
keep a watchful eye on your block. See attached flyer for Block Leader
Training dates.
Call 911 if you see or hear suspicious behavior such as:
A person going door to door in a residential area, especially if one
or more persons go to the rear of the home.
An unfamiliar, occupied vehicle repeatedly cruising your neighborhood.
The sound of breaking glass or other loud noises like a door being kicked in.
Persons running, especially if they are carrying something of value.
