substantially update the structure of each group home page on our
network.
http://GroupServer.org is the home for the GPL open source tool. Our
online host and collaborator, OnlineGroups.Net leads GroupServer
efforts.
We have two primary audiences - those visiting for the first time
trying to figure out whether to join, what the forum is all about and
members or repeat visitors reading up on topics and potentially
posting.
Anyway, I encourage you to read the post below and check out these mock ups:

I think this work is going in a very positive direction and it will be
from this base that I will adding my/our input.
When it comes to new members, new potential forum starters, potential
funders/donors I feel like we face major competition with their
expectations that come from sites like Facebook, Ning, WordPress, etc.
I was heartened to receive feedback from a potential funder who liked
our "elegant simplicity." A challenge for us is to make sure the
lively exchange on most of Issues Forums shines through more
dynamically while continuing to serve our base of users with real
utility.

Hi All!
To help you visualise the changes to the group homepage that are being
proposed, I thought it would be useful to do a couple of mockups based
on a forum on E-Democracy.org. Below are two mockups based on St Paul
Issues Forum. Both are showing a the page as it would look to a
logged-in normal member of the forum.
In group-homepage-edem_about-topics.png I show the About and Topics
tabs. On the left the *About* tab is displaying the text that is
currently being displayed at the top of the page. I have made some
text bold, other text blue, to give an idea of what it would look like
as HTML.
The *Topics* tab is showing six posts. I hid the keywords, as
per-usual on E-Democracy.org.¹
In group-homepage-edem_related-topics.png I show the links in the
*Related* tab. The list was taken from the Related Links sidebar on
the current St Paul Issues Forum homepage. To fit in the extra tab I
had to shorten the name of the Statistics tab to “Stats”, but I think
it works fine ☺
The *Us* *Bar* is much as I have been using on all the other mockups.
I put Ed's photo in there, and added the Invite² and Leave links.
Finally, the Photo, Title, and Description³ have been lifted from the
existing St Paul Issues Forum.
*Footnotes*
1. Just in case you look at the actual topics and
wonder why they are different to what you see, the
EST in the timestamps is *Australian* Eastern
Standard Time.
2. See Ticket 436: Allow Invitations from Members
<https://projects.iopen.net/groupserver/ticket/436>
3. The group description is also know as "Real Life Group".
