stirring up a heated debate in St. Paul (https://tinyurl.com/qmadncc)
"In a city with a robust charter sector — many of which have attracted St. Paul
students searching for culturally affirming learning environments or other
supports they weren’t finding in traditional public schools — talks of a
moratorium are stirring up a heated debate. Supporters of a moratorium say
charters are siphoning students, along with the state and federal dollars that
follow them, away from the district and furthering racial segregation in the
city’s schools."
It seems to me that 'searching for culturally affirming learning environments'
will often tend to result in a racially segregated environment. I mean, if we
insist on a completely diversified student body, don't we risk stifling certain
cultures?
