Allston I-90 NEPA Scoping document - Framingham public information meeting

There was an article in yesterday's Boston Globe on the
Allston I-90 NEPA Scoping document - Framingham public information meeting

Wednesday, December 4, 2019
6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
at the Charlotte Dunning Elementary School,
48 Frost Street ,

"The purpose of this public information meeting, conducted by the Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA) and participated in by MassDOT as the project
proponent, is to provide members of the community with an opportunity to become
fully acquainted with the Scoping Report for the I-90 Allston Multimodal
Project. ...."

I had to click through a bunch until I finally saw the overview of the
project:

Basically tearing up the railway yard for real estate development (?) and
adding traffic lights to the on/off ramps (they were already parking lots
:D)

And Harvard University benefits from the land swap. This deal stinks for the T
riders from the west and toll payers of the mass pike.

I’d love to know where this got dreamed up?

This is the probably once in a blue moon that Rich and I agree on something.
What seems to concern people is the

1) rail plan - reducing to 1 rail in one segment likely creating a bottleneck,
and the lack of planning for getting people to the train and parking space near
the stations. The effort to get people to switch to public transportation
seems more like an afterthought. MA DOT seemed to feel that we could all walk
or ride a bike which to me indicates a complete lack of sensitivity to those
(probably a vast majority) who have no other way to get to the train station
than to drive our cars.

2) the projected increases in travel time on the Pike itself (if I recall
doubling the commute time for some) and people sitting in cars spewing fumes
for additional hours in the day is absurd.
I can't begin to imagine the havoc it will create for businesses in Boston and
in Metrowest and for those who commute either way.

And, from a commercial real estate point of view, investors who are trying
to expand out to the suburbs for better rates, will be looking North and
South of Boston, instead of West. Economic Development in Framingham could
come to a standstill, the effects of which will be felt for years and
years. Might as well put T.O.D. (Transit Oriented Development) efforts on
hold indefinitely. As it stands now, this project is really going to suck
for Framingham.
