Gallery last November, I have finally completed this summary of the exhibit
which includes extensive documentation of the artworks and activities in the
exhibit, courtesy of photographers Ben Lansky and Rik Sferra. (attached as a
pdf) Many thanks to all who participated in the exhibition and activities and
to all the many community members and organizations without whom this would not
have been possible.
We are coming up on some critical moments in the history of Lake Hiawatha. We
need to remember that this place is critical habitat and home to many wildlife
residents. We also need to implement comprehensive stormwater treatment
immediately to stem the tide of endlessly renewing trash and pollution that is
choking out the Lake and its wildlife. That means when the MPRB (Minneapolis
Park and Recreation Board) and The City of Minneapolis begin their work to
restore Hiawatha Golf Course, and open up the land to public access, it must be
done in a way that does not make the situation worse for wildlife who have
until now lived in relative privacy. The exhibit is intended to show a way
forward that still provides meaningful public access to water and nature while
protecting critical habitat areas.
Thank you!
