Honesty should be the cornerstone of any politician and their administration
and our mayor, Melvin Carter has been caught in a major lie to the public by
both the Pioneer Press and Star Tribune!

On June 27th Mayor Carter lies to us when he cancelled the annual July 4th
fireworks stating that it would save $100,000.00 in city funds. Carter stated,
âWe donât have access to any of those resources this year, which is why we made
the decision that we did.â Carter then went on to say he would not rule out
the possibility of a major donor coming forward.
This last statement about looking for another avenue was a total
misrepresentation by Mayor Carter based on the Star Tribune review of 246 pages
of emails from the St. Paul City Clerk about the issue.
The private sector was stepping forward with the resources needed along with
city Council member Jane Prince, but Mayor Carter was bound and determined to
cancel the July 4th fireworks display at all costs.
The cancellation of the July 4th fireworks was NEVER about money, as the
private sector was stepping up, it was Mayor Melvin Carterâs Colin Kaepernick
moment of taking a knee to the citizens of St. Paul, as he had been planning to
do this since May! Mayor Carter put the kabosh on all private efforts to pull
this together and the mayor grossly over estimated the cost of the fireworks
display in his public statements.
This is not the first time Mayor Carter has shown his deep hatred of America,
in his inaugural speech on January 2, 2018 Mayor Carter falsely stated that our
National Anthem was, âan ode to slavery.â Totally false statement made up by
our mayor. I guess this is the new way politics are conducted, by just making
stuff up as you go!
I have had the great privilege over the years of working with many Democratic
Party Members (Democrats) in St. Paul. The city council member mentioned in
these two articles, Jane Prince was the chair of the Democratic Party in St.
Paul and I was the Republican chair. Jane called me up and we talked about
organizing a joint caucus (March 4th on Match 4th) and I was very impressed
with her! Throughout the years when I have dealt with Jane, I found her to be
a very honest and good person! Jane is truly an asset to her ward and her
honesty is very much appreciated!
Two other city council members one retired and one currently sitting were
Republicans who switched to the Democratic Party, they have also been good
council members, very honest with me, as honesty does matter!
What I find so troubling is Mayor Carterâs pattern of dishonesty going back
many years and is highlighted in the above articles.
Example of Mayor Carter not telling the truth: Back in 2007 when Melvin Carter
was running for Ward 1 City Council, Carter claimed he was living in his
motherâs basement located in Ward 1, but he was actually living at 54 Hatch
Avenue, in Ward 5. This misrepresentation of residency is concerning on many
levels, as the home at 54 Hatch Avenue was listed as âResidential Homesteadâ
for Melvin Carter for his property taxes in Ramsey County. Melvin Carter was
claiming that 54 Hatch Avenue in Saint Paul as his primary residence for at
least 6 months + 1 day, out of the year, not his motherâs home in Ward 1.
Melvin Carter was caught not telling the truth about his residency just so he
could run for political office in a favorable ward.
Honesty should count in any elected official. Both the Pioneer Press and Star
Tribune have called Mayor Carter out on his lying over the fireworks issue, 246
pages of emails from various city officials show Mayor Carter was not telling
the truth to us over and over again. This pattern of not telling the truth and
dishonesty we have seen throughout Melvin Carterâs political career! How can
we believe anything Mayor Carter says, when he is exposed so blatantly for
lying to the residents of St. Paul?
